See how actors and musicians sweated at the opening of the new sports club

,   3 minute reading

Today, at a former old factory building in the Ülemiste City campus of Tallinn, MyFitness opened its new, dignified sports club which houses the largest MyFitness gym, group training rooms with the most modern light and sound equipment, as well as a swimming pool.

At the festive opening, actors, including Evelin Võigemast, Maiken Schmidt, Märt and Priit Pius had a sporty duel against musicians, represented by Juss Haasmaa, Daniel Levi, and Diana and Kethi from the musical group LaLaLadies.

At the opening, the Minister of Culture Indrek Saar said that each new sports facility makes it harder for people to find excuses not to work out, and it is commendable that an interesting historic building at Ülemiste City has been restored as a sports club, specifically. ‘I have no doubt that among others, people working at the campus will find their way to the new club, especially considering the opportunity of employers to support the sporting hobbies of each employee, tax-free, in the amount of 400 euros, each year, which will enter into force in the next year,’ Saar added.

At the opening, Chairman of the Management Board of Mainor Ülemiste, Margus Nõlvak, handed the factory building restored into the sports club over to Chairman of the Management Board of MyFitness, Erkki Torn. According to Torn, the new club is undoubtedly their most architecturally fascinating and their most modern in terms of technology. ‘This level provides enough reason to come and visit the club from farther away as well, but primarily, it creates extremely comfortable opportunities for training specifically for the thousands of people who operate at and live nearby the Ülemiste City campus,’ noted Torn at the opening of the 22nd club of MyFitness.

To open the sports club, the old limestone industrial building was restored, which was initially built in the 1920s–1930s as the mechanical assembly shop of the former Dvigatel factory. On the building, the historic reinforced concrete saw-tooth roof was fully restored, the likes of which remain very few in Estonia. The 8.5-metre-high ceilings and natural lighting from the transparent roof, which required nearly 1000 m2 of glass to restore, provide a distinct interior to the club.

The Ülemiste City MyFitness has a well-equipped gym with a cardio park, free weights and a stretching area, and two open training studios with versatile group training. The club’s swimming area has a 3-lane, 25-metre-long pool, a children’s pool, a jacuzzi, a vapour sauna and a steam sauna. Group training will be held at the swimming pool – water aerobics and swimming courses for adults, and training for children. In addition, a massage parlour that offers sports and therapeutic massage, physiotherapy, posture analysis and preparation for training, will start operating.
