Ülemiste City supports Estonia’s AI Leap in Schools

Mainor Ülemiste AS has joined an initiative by the Estonian Association of Information Technology and Telecommunications (ITL) and is supporting the education innovation programme AI Leap (TI-Hüpe), launched by President Alar Karis, with a €3,700 contribution. The programme’s funding model stipulates that every euro contributed by the private sector is doubled: the state covers 50% of the budget and continues funding the programme provided the private sector considers it necessary and contributes its share.

According to Sten Pärnits, Chairman of the Management Board of Mainor Ülemiste AS, artificial intelligence is already influencing schools and learning though not always in the best way. “I hope our contribution will help Estonian schools find responsible ways to use AI in learning so that it supports students’ creativity and critical thinking. If we want young people in Estonia to be prepared for the future labour market, we must support the thoughtful use of AI in schools,” Pärnits said.

Ivo Visak, Head of AI Leap, noted that the programme’s success for every young person in Estonia depends on cooperation across the entire education ecosystem. “Just as Estonia’s digital state was built through public–private collaboration, the AI Leap education programme also needs support from companies that play a critical role both as initiators of ideas and as co-financiers. We recognise and thank Mainor Ülemiste AS as the very first company to respond to the ITL board’s call to support Estonia’s next major leap in development. Together, we will help bring AI responsibly into schools and support the learning skills and creativity of the next generation,” Visak said.

AI Leap is an education innovation programme initiated by President Alar Karis, aimed at fostering meaningful learning and helping the education system adapt to the age of artificial intelligence. The support helps ensure equal access to appropriate tools, the continuous development of AI literacy, and the renewal of teaching practices. The programme is led by the AI Leap Foundation.
