Ülemiste City Recycling Week

Ülemiste City Recycling Week brings together enthusiasts of sustainable consumption – bring items left over from your spring cleaning or find something new for yourself, because one person’s old can be someone else’s new. As part of this event, we are collaborating with the non-profit organization MTÜ Aarete Laegas, to whom we will donate all leftover items so they can reach those who truly need and appreciate them.

From June 2–13, Monday to Friday, between 9:00 AM and 4:30 PM, you can bring your items or come to find something new to yourself to the Öpik Conference Centre.

  • From 2-6 June room Kosmos
  • From 9-13 June room Galatika

We accept the following:

  • Women’s, men’s, and children’s clothing
  • Small household and decorative items
  • Books
  • Toys and games

On-site: a pop-up shop and small workshops by sustainable designers from 2-6th of June!

Throughout Circulation Week, you’ll have the chance to explore the creations of sustainable designers Karl Christoph Rebane, Karlotta Design, Luks, and Annreal, whose work will also be available for purchase. Each day, one of the designers will be present in person, offering a look into their creative process, hosting mini workshops, and answering your questions.

The full designer schedule and workshop information will be announced soon!

Designers info:

LUKS– One of Estonia’s passionate advocates for sustainable fashion. Her creations are mainly made from denim, which is given new life through ripping, weaving, and sewing, resulting in unique and wearable design pieces. Dismantling old jeans down to the thread level allows for unexpected material innovation, embodying an environmentally conscious mindset combined with functionality and uniqueness.
Sandra Luks is a versatile designer who values quality and constantly seeks new ways to reuse materials and create distinctive products. She believes in sustainable fashion that is unique, functional, and long-lasting.
“I want my work to inspire people to think in terms of slow fashion and to express their values through clothing.”

Karl Christoph Rebane– Christoph is a multifaceted sustainable fashion designer, a recently graduated MA in fashion design, a poet – and the 2024 Silver Needle award winner. His original work has been showcased at various Estonian fashion shows, Tallinn Fashion Week, as well as fashion events in Lithuania, Ukraine, and Finland.

Annreal– Annreal is a sustainable accessory brand created by designer Ann Müürsepp. All bags are handmade from upcycled leather scraps, which the designer transforms into unique and character-filled handbags.
Ann’s journey into leathercraft began when she discovered a pile of discarded scraps from the old “Linda” leather factory at her grandmother’s home. What started as a personal project evolved into a deeper exploration of material, memory, and meaning. She was fascinated by the individuality of each piece – the scratches, marks, and textures – and saw beauty in what others might see as flaws.

KARLOTTA– Eva-Karlotta Tatar is the founder and designer behind the brand KARLOTTA. The brand originated in New York in 2019 and focuses on the development of sustainable leather design. Eva-Karlotta studied art education at Tallinn University and has taught art and creativity in youth camps in the U.S. Her master’s studies took her to the Design School Kolding in Denmark, where she specialized in accessory design. She worked for several years at Stella Soomlais’ leather studio and later spent four years in New York as a handbag designer for the luxury brand 1Atelier. She has since returned to Estonia to develop her own brand. Each KARLOTTA bag is handmade in Tallinn using high-quality leather scraps sourced from the furniture industry. By repurposing existing materials and creating special yet practical designs, Karlotta gives them new life and promotes more conscious, sustainable consumption. https://www.karlottadesign.com/

Who is MTÜ Aarete Laegas?
MTÜ Aarete Laegas is a non-profit charity organization founded in 2013 that focuses on reuse and helps families in need by providing them with gently used clothing. Their beneficiaries include fire victims, large families, single parents, people with disabilities, residents of shelters and care homes, the homeless, and others struggling with life’s challenges. Aarete Laegas works in partnership with various institutions, associations, therapists, social workers, and individuals who support those in need. Currently, the organization operates one center located in Northern Tallinn, at Kopli 33 / Paavli 1, but they send aid packages at their own expense across all of Estonia. To help finance their charity work, Aarete Laegas also runs a reuse shop. From the store’s inventory, they assemble emergency packages and, by prior agreement, some items are available free of charge to those in need. Their mission is to support those who need help the most while also caring for the environment.

In the Öpik Conference Centre foyer, you’ll find two wooden collection boxes from Aarete Laegas, where we welcome donations in two specific categories:

  • Pots and pans
  • Blankets, pillows, and bed linens

These are items that are constantly in high demand, and your contribution could make a significant difference for someone in need.

The event will be documented by a photographer, videographer, or a representative managing Ülemiste City’s social media. Ülemiste City reserves the right to use the photo and video material on the city’s official channels.
