Turkey offers available workforce in return for Estonia´s IT experience Friday, 15th of February Seminar “Estonian´s ICT sector and global markets” that was held in Ülemiste City concentrated on the development of Estonia-Turkey relations and possible IT co-operation. The board member of Estonian Association of Information Technology and Telecommunications Vaho Klaamann gave an overview of the current situation in information and communication technology (ICT) sector. In his opinion Estonia suffers the lack of workforce therefore co-operation with Turkey will be promising. Martin-Éric Racine, head of development in hardware engineering company Artec Group spoke about the problem with immigration that is currently keeping Turkish workers from having a job in Estonia. But Racine takes Estonia as an example and sees it justifiable to offer available workforce in return for Estonia´s IT experience.“Telecommunication companies are making the main profit in ICT sector, after that is TV network and then IT companies,” explained Klaamann about how the profit is divided. In his opinion current salary raise has swallowed up additional profit, but low profit margin is not enough to invest. “Estonia hasn’t got the opportunity to capitalize its IT image for money, that´s why it´s important to find new markets.” He says we need nationally coordinated ICT policy and the co-operation between national and private sector. Also, there is an IT conference coming on March in Istanbul where Estonia-Turkey relations are taken under further consideration.
